Just after one Savannah and Shelly arrived at Margaret's home and cattery.

"What's that?" Margaret asked, opening the door for the women.

"A dollhouse, of course," Savannah said. "Shelly picked it up from Colbi. You said you have kittens and we thought…"

"Oh, that's right!" Margaret said. "We discussed it as a backdrop for kittens. It's cute—kind of old-fashioned-vintage."

Shelly nodded. "She said Damon bought it at a yard sale."

"Have you decided which cats to use?" Savannah asked. "I mean aside from the kittens?"

"Layla for sure," Margaret said, gazing at the faux tangerine Persian who was watching them from the back of a sofa. Before she could continue, Margaret's husband, Max, walked into the room with a black-and-white cat in his arms.

"Hi, Jack," Savannah said to the cat. She laughed. "Look at this, Shelly, we have a real pirate here."

"How cute is that?" Shelly asked, "Where'd you get that cool pirate hat for him, and the eye patch?"

"It's a long story," Max said.

"Give them the short version," Margaret insisted.

"Well, years ago I did a little community theater, and one of the scenes called for a pirate character and a mascot. We couldn't come up with a suitable parrot at the time, but I had a very forgiving cat. I devised a costume for her, and she shared the limelight with me for the duration of the run. When this photo thing came up, I dug out the costume and discovered that it fit Jack perfectly." Max asked, "What do you think?"

"I think it's great!" Shelly said.

Savannah added, "And you have a fun story to go with the portrait."

Shelly petted Layla. "What is this gorgeous girl going to wear?"

Margaret grinned. She picked up a wide red silk ribbon. "How about a close-up of her little face with this tied around her neck?" She ran her hand over Layla's fur. I cleaned her face real good this morning—you know how Persians' eyes get sometimes." She peered into the cat's face. "She really looks good, don't you think so?"

"Beautiful," Shelly said. "I like your idea, Maggie. So far we haven't done any real close-ups." She looked at Max. "Let's start with the pirate there, since he's dressed."

The women finished the photo shoot in about an hour.

"I'm sorry the kittens were so helter-skelter," Margaret said.

Savannah chuckled. "Oh, that was a fun session. Those little guys sure have minds of their own, don't they? If we needed pictures of kitten butts, they would be perfect."

Shelly scrolled through the images on her camera. "But we got some really cute ones of them checking out the rooms in the dollhouse and peeking through the windows. That turned out to be a great prop." She gazed at Layla. "She's a natural. I'll bet you could dress her up in all sorts of finery, and she wouldn't mind a bit."

Margaret picked up the faux Persian. "Yes, she's always been sweet and mild-mannered." She snuggled with the cat and crooned, "Now you're going to be famous, Layla-girl."

Everyone laughed when Layla yawned.

"We bored you, did we?" Savannah said, ruffling the fur on the cat's cheek.
